| Spellbound Entertainment has secured a series of new deals in Europe, Asia and North America for its award-winning preschool series The Koala Brothers.
In the latest round of deals, Hungarian children’s channel Minimax has purchased the cable and satellite rights to the first two seasons of The Koala Brothers, as well as the 46-minute Christmas special, The Koala Brothers Outback Christmas, for broadcast in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Canal Plus has also acquired all 78x10-minute episodes and the Christmas special for its cable and satellite service, Mini Mini, in Poland. Having already acquired the first series and the Christmas special, S4C in Wales also recently purchased the second season.
Meanwhile, after picking up the first and second seasons, broadcasters such as ABC in Australia, RTE in Ireland, TVP in Poland, ETV in Estonia, Tele-Quebec in Canada and ATV in Hong Kong have all acquired the third. TV12 in Singapore has also added The Koala Brothers Outback Christmas to its slate.
Following the success of The Koala Brothers series on CBeebies in the U.K., BBC Worldwide has taken the DVD compilation rights to the series for inclusion in its catalog of CBeebies titles to be launched later this year.
Spellbound Entertainment controls all rights to The Koala Brothers brandinternationally and manages all TV distribution, home entertainment, publishing and licensing. The series also recently premiered on Disney Channel in Japan and will launch on EBS in Korea this fall. Created by Australian animator/director David Johnson and originally commissioned by CBBC in the U.K., The Koala Brothers is a stop-frame animated series that has been acquired by 48 broadcasters in over 80 territories worldwide, including Disney Channel in the U.S., Discovery Kids in Latin America, Super RTL in Germany, France 5 and Tiji in France, ABC and Nickelodeon in Australia, Jetix in Holland, Cartoon Network in India and Denmark's TV2, among others. |
