New Years eve bash in NJ resort town anchored by performance by Yosi |

 Heading over the bridge to Seaside Heights on a breezy and cold winter afternoon didn't exactly sound like the kind of thing that inspires New Year's Eve fun with young children, but Ocean County's 2007 First Night activities proved me wrong.
This year's First Night was sponsored by the Lakewood Blue Claws minor league baseball team and was 100% focused on the children. In an age where New Year's is all about getting drunk and watching the ball drop in Manhattan, Seaside Heights made a bold move and created a special New Year's celebration for the kids.
When we arrived at the Casino Arcade, children's musician Yosi was preparing to take the stage. We've seen Yosi before and listen to his new CD "What's Eatin' Yosi?", but that was at my daughter's preschool in front of a bunch of tired and weary pre-schoolers on a sugar downer on Halloween.
 This time the crowd was lively and awake... and a little bit older. Yosi's energetic style of alternative/punk kids boppin' jams had the kids pogo'ing through nearly the whole set until each and every one of them seemed ready for a long nap.
Afterwards we spent some time watching the magicians, jugglers and other performers in the immediate area around Casino Arcade.
If you want to take your kids out next New Years Eve day, I definitely would suggest First Night Ocean County. It's a family friendly and alcohol free party for all ages. As an added benefit, my daughter made her first press appearance on the front page of the community section of the Asbury Park Press!
