People Hired To Clean Disney Fighting To Get Paid

More than a dozen people hired to clean Downtown Disney said they were fired just because one of them complained and now they're fighting to get the money for the work they did.

WFTV 9 - ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- More than a dozen people hired to clean Downtown Disney said they were fired just because one of them complained and now they're fighting to get the money for the work they did.

The workers said they responded to an ad in the newspaper for maintenance work and presented false documents to get the job. But the work was good and they now they just want to get paid for it.

Cleaning up after tourists who stream through the glitzy shops and restaurants of Downtown Disney is a hard job and one the undocumented immigrants said was theirs.

Jesus said he and 13 others vacuumed, cleaned floors and washed bathrooms as employees of a company called OR&L, a contractor for Disney. But after more than a week of working up to 14 hours a day, with no break, Jesus said one worker's complaint about the rough schedule caused all 14 of them to get fired.

Jesus said they were unemployed. As of that moment, they didn't have jobs. And, after days of waiting, Jesus said they were told they wouldn't get paid for the work they did because they didn't have the right documents.

Eyewitness News went in search of OR&L and, after several tries, finally got through to Bob Owens. He said the workers just need to provide the proper documentation and they'll get paid.
