A 17-year-old girl sustained minor injuries when a tree frond fell on the Jungle Cruise boat at Disneyland this afternoon. |
Orange County Register - ANAHEIM– A 17-year-old girl sustained minor injuries when a tree frond fell on the Jungle Cruise boat at Disneyland this afternoon.
At about 12:30 p.m., winds gusting to 22 mph whipped the frond of a bird of paradise tree, which struck the boat, said Bob Tucker, spokesman for the Disney Resort.
People were getting ready to get off the ride, which was standing still when the incident occurred, Tucker said.
The girl was taken to Western Medical Center-Anaheim complaining of neck soreness. No other injuries were reported, Tucker said.
Most of the impact of the 10-foot-long, 2-inch-wide frond was broken by the boat's rail.
About 15 firefighters were dispatched after reports of a heavy rescue, but were called off after the first eight firefighters on the scene assessed the damage, Anaheim Fire Department spokeswoman Maria Sabol said.
In 2001, a 20-foot oak crashed to the ground in the Frontierland area, injuring at least 27 people |
